My daughter is a 2028 neet aspirant who is confused in choosing the extra subject along with PCB for class 11. She has been studying maths since May and has completed 2 chapters already. But now she is thinking to change her subject because of time management issues. Please tell if she should choose Bitechnology, Computer Science or continue with maths, taking board/school exams as well as NEET preperation into consideration. Please help
Ans: Hi,
GREETINGS FROM THE REDIFFGURUS.
That's a good question.

Since she is a NEET aspirant, there's no need to worry about the fourth subject, whether it's Mathematics, Biotechnology, or Computer Science. My suggestion is to stick with Mathematics. Studying Math will help her tackle the physics portion of the NEET exam more easily, especially since many students often struggle with the calculations in that section.

So, don’t worry; the choice you’ve made is the best one. There is NO benefit to choosing Computer Science at this time, and while a few questions may appear in NEET related to Biotechnology, those will mostly be covered in Biology. So, please proceed with Mathematics. I hope you understand my point.

From now on, please don’t change her mind or let her get distracted.

One suggestion I have is that she should start preparing for NEET immediately. How? She should download the NEET syllabus from the official website and go through it. Encourage her to segregate the chapters based on Class 11 and Class 12. For any topics in the Class 11 syllabus, she should review them and clarify any doubts in her regular classes before completing that syllabus. The same approach should be applied for Class 12 as well.

Additionally, she should try some free mock tests available online. Encourage her to practice yoga and meditation, as this will help her manage stress. With a focused approach, she can score well and secure a seat in top medical colleges like AIIMS or JIPMER.

Sir my son has secured CSE in Manipal main campus in the first round and fees deposited. He has got a BITSAT score of 250 and wants to pursue Dual degree program from any one of the three campuses of BITS Pilani as BE four years is difficult to get. Please advise the order of choices he should go Dual degree in BITS campus wise and branch wise sequence or should he go for Manipal. Thanks.
Ans: SIR,
GREETINGS FROM THE REDIFFGURUS!
Based on the engineering program, he can choose from various dual degree options. If he is interested in Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or B.E. Pharmaceutical Engineering, he should consider pursuing a combination with Chemistry. Alternatively, he can choose from Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electronics and Instrumentation, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, or again B.E. Pharmaceutical Engineering. He also has the option to focus on Physics.

He can prioritize attending the Pilani campus, followed by the Hyderabad and Goa campuses.

In my opinion, most students seeking jobs primarily rely on their first degree rather than their dual degree. Additionally, it’s unlikely that someone can achieve expertise in multiple subjects within just one year. Therefore, it may be better for him to pursue a conventional path. This way, he can concentrate more on specific subjects, gain a deeper understanding, and ultimately increase his employability.

BEST WISHES.

Ans: HI INTEKHAB,
GREETINGS FROM THE REDIFFGURUS!

Becoming a doctor is a dream for everyone who has chosen science subjects. However, due to various reasons, some candidates struggle to achieve the marks needed in their HSC exams. In such situations, the government should provide support to these candidates. Fortunately, the government is now offering assistance to those who want to pursue a career in medicine, without any discrimination. This kind of support was not available in the past.

How? Here is the answer.
Most people, including students, do not fully understand the NEET exam. Many are prioritizing NEET (in recent days, people are comparing it to exams in China and other countries). Why?
When compared to other entrance exams, NEET has a significantly higher number of aspirants. For example, around 22-23 lakh students are appearing for NEET. The NEET exam is conducted in a paper-and-pencil format, whereas JEE is based on computer-based testing (CBT).

There are several advantages of NEET compared to other entrance exams that everyone should understand before forming an opinion:

**Aspirants:** The number of aspirants for NEET is almost double that of JEE.

**Programs:** NEET allows admission primarily to medical courses, including BDS and AYUSH.

**Institutions:** There are fewer medical colleges compared to engineering colleges, which increases competition.

**Eligibility:**
- **Basic Eligibility:** HSC (common for both JEE and NEET)
- **Marks Requirement:** 50% for NEET, while the requirement for JEE varies.
- **Age Limit:** There is no upper age limit; the minimum age is 17 years at the time of admission.
- **Attempts:** Students can appear for NEET any number of times, whereas for JEE, they can only attempt it for three consecutive years.
- **College Fees:** Tuition fees for medical courses are comparable to other professional programs.
- **Attempts in HSC:** There is no limit on attempts in HSC.
- **Donations/Development Fees:** There are generally no issues regarding these expenses.

If the government sets stricter criteria for NEET, such as requiring a minimum of 60% in HSC (from a single board), not allowing a second attempt, and limiting the number of attempts to three consecutive years, the number of aspirants for NEET could drastically reduce—potentially by 50%.

**Issues Raised by Aspirants:**
Aspirants often do not maintain discipline while appearing for the exam. They should arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes early to avoid panic. It's crucial to follow instructions in the respective bulletin and to carry only the items mentioned to prevent delays and confusion. It is the responsibility of the individual. But it is not happening.

**Test Centers:** The exam centers should maintain hygienic conditions and provide necessary logistics, such as electricity backup, clean water, and canteen facilities for the candidates.

Despite taking great care in conducting this common entrance exam, the government, students, and parents are facing numerous challenges due to the actions of a few individuals. As members of the public, we must not tolerate such criminal activities and should support the government rather than create further trouble.

To address your situation: you are eligible for NEET. However, since you scored low marks in HSC, you will need to put in significant effort to improve. If you have diverted your focus to pursuing Pharmacy, it may hinder your ability to concentrate on both your current course and NEET preparation. You need to decide which path you want to pursue. The choice is yours.
BEST WISHES.
